Amadeus started in 2000, and is formed of a group of like-minded singers - everyone sings for enjoyment and pleasure.  Drawn from around the North-West of England, the choir is based in Formby, north of the city of Liverpool.   Their conductor, David Holroyd, was Assistant Organist at Chester Cathedral, before teaching for 33 years at Merchant Taylors’, Crosby (Liverpool).  As well as Amadeus, he conducts Birkenhead Choral Society, Formby Choral Society and is Organist at St Peter’s Church in Formby.  The choir has sung around the UK in many major Cathedrals, as well as around Europe in Notre-Dame Paris, in Venice, Granada and even St Peter’s in Rome - to name but a few.  They have sung in Guernsey before.  In 2011 they came over for the wedding of their conductor’s daughter at St Matthew’s Church, Cobo.  Over the years they have raised in excess of £100,000 for various charities, and are delighted to return to Guernsey for a very exciting concert in aid of Headway Guernsey.  As well as the concert at St Stephen’s they are giving an informal performance at the Town Church, and singing Sunday services in both St Stephen’s and the Town Church.

Their repertoire extends far beyond the reach of the choir stalls: from austere early chant, florid Renaissance polyphony, lewd madrigals and haunting folk songs, to upbeat Jazz and Pop arrangements.. The group has commissioned new pieces from Nico Muhly and Philip Moore, and arrangements from Alexander L'Estrange.

About Headway Guernsey:

Headway Guernsey is a local charity supporting islanders living with the effects of acquired brain injury. Based at Headway House, KGV, it offers cognitive rehabilitation programmes, social activities, and practical advice to help members rebuild confidence, independence, and essential skills such as memory and communication.

Working closely with healthcare professionals, the charity also provides a confidential family support group, recognising the impact that brain injury has on loved ones. Services can be accessed through self-referral or professional referral, and activities range from workshops to community outings.

Entirely self-funded, Headway Guernsey relies on donations and fundraising to continue its vital, life-changing work.
